Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are scheduled to host Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in the IPL 2023 on Tuesday, May 9, and both the teams will look to win the fixture after losing their previous clashes against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals by six and seven wickets respectively. Ahead of the fixture, Indian batting legends Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar caught up on Monday.
In the IPL 2023 points table, MI are currently eighth with 10 points while RCB have managed the sixth spot with the same number of points but a better net run rate. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli briefly played together for the Indian team at the beginning of Kohli’s career and the twilight of Tendulkar’s career. The young Delhi boy was considered the heir to Sachin who had been the best player in the team for more than two decades.
Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar caught up a day prior to the fixture during the practice session for both teams. The duo were seen having a laugh with each other and their pictures together have gone viral on social media. IPL posted a wholesome video on Twitter and captioned it, "A legendary catch-up ahead of a captivating contest."
The Twitter account of RCB also posted a video of them together with the caption, "Some visual treat like none other to make your Monday evening better! 🤩 When Virat Kohli met Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede today."
There have been many instances when fans compared Virat Kohli to Sachin Tendulkar, however, the RCB opener has refuted the comparisons as he said in 2017 when asked on the show Breakfast with Champions, "You can only compare those who are worthy of comparison. You are comparing me with someone because of whom I started playing cricket."
Back to the IPL, RCB face the tough task of playing Mumbai at the Wankhede as the Royal Challengers have lost six out of the nine matches played there. RCB won the reverse fixture this season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium by eight wickets. This is an important game for both teams as a win here would get either team into the top four in the points table.
