Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women will kickstart their Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 campaign against Gujarat Giants on Friday, February 14. While the Smriti Mandhana-led side will hope to defend the title, the red and the blue have also received a boast with star India batter and RCB veteran Virat Kohli sending his best wishes.
Speaking on RCB Shorts, Virat Kohli motivated the women’s team, hoping that they replicate their last year performance. In WPL 2024, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the summit clash to win their maiden title, which was also the first for the franchise in the 17-year-long history of the cash-rich league.
I would like to wish the women’s team all the very best: Virat Kohli ahead of WPL 2025
In a clip shared by RCB across their social media handles, Virat Kohli said, “I would like to wish the women’s team all the very best for the upcoming WPL season. It's amazing what you did last year, and I hope that you can continue to ride that momentum and take that confidence into this tournament as well. There is no shortage of talent, as we have seen last year as well.”
“I am sure that with the load on your back of winning the title, you will go out there and express yourselves and enjoy the support that you get from the fans all over India. So, I wish you all the very best for the upcoming season,” he added.
Speaking of the third edition of WPL, the tournament will be played across four venues in Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai. With the newly made Kotambi Stadium hosting six matches, the tournament will move to Bengaluru, where RCB Women will host Mumbai Indians Women. The tournament will then move to Lucknow, followed by the tournament concluding in Mumbai.
