India and Bangladesh took on each other in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Rohit Sharma-led team never got going with KL Rahul standing alone at one end. India were bowled out for a mere 186.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh batters did a good job after an early blow. Captain Litton Das and Shakib were the main men for Bangladesh as they stitched a 48-run partnership for the third wicket. However, Washington Sundar broke the partnership as he got Das strangled down the leg side. The off-spinner soon got Shakib Al Hasan who was threatening to walk away with the game. But Sundar had Virat Kohli to thank as the batter pulled off an absolute blinder after getting out to one.

As Shakib advanced down the wicket and tried to take on Sundar, he miscued a lofted cover drive. Meanwhile, Kohli who was stationed at short cover anticipated really well and followed the ball closely. As the ball was flying close to the fielder, Kohli stretched his right hand and plucked the ball out of thin air to send Shakib back.

This catch turned out to be a twist in the tale and India started tightening their grip on the game after Shakib's dismissal. After Hasan was dismissed, Bangladesh's scoring rate came significantly down. Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim took 69 balls to add just 33 runs for the fifth wicket.

While Mahmudullah got out trapped before the wicket, Rahim chopped a ball from Mohammed Siraj back onto his stumps.
