In the 12th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 season, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians comprehensively by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare. It was the first win for CSK against MI at the Wankhede Stadium in five years and their 15th win overall in 35 IPL matches versus the same opponents.

The former Indian captain and CSK’s own MS Dhoni has been able to amass a fan following like no other in recent years due to his insane feats of achievement, whether it’s on or off the field of cricket. They cheer for him at stadiums in India and around the world whether he is playing a match in front of them or not. Yesterday’s example is one of many in the long list of occasions when MS Dhoni's superstardom as a cricketer was on full display.

During this all-important encounter between two most successful IPL teams, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, “We want Dhoni” chants broke out in the grandstands as the fan wanted to see MS D bat for CSK in the run chase.

Meanwhile, it was Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spin duo, who spun a web around Mumbai and picked up 5 wickets between them to help Chennai make an impressive comeback in the match. In the batting department, Ajinkya Rahane, on his CSK debut, smashed 61 off 27 deliveries with 7 fours and 3 sixes to give his team a blockbuster start in pursuit of 158. Ruturaj Gaikwad played through the innings for Chennai Super Kings to control the run chase and take his team home safely over the line against Mumbai Indians.
