After Bajrang Punia, Neeraj Chopra voiced their opinions on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from women’s 50kg gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024, Yogeshwar Dutt too has joined the bandwagon and has spoken about the Indian wrestler’s result, which is being looked legally by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
However, the CAS, which was set to announce the verdict on Phogat’s trial on Saturday, August 10, pushed back the decision by some days after undergoing a three-hour hearing on Friday, August 9. While every Indian remains hopeful for another silver medal, Yogeshwar Dutt also hopes for a favourable outcome.
Speaking with ANI, Dutt confirmed that the CAS has extended the time for the verdict to August 13 adding that the rule however remains clear. “We are hoping for something positive… We have won six medals, I hope something positive will happen, adding one more medal to the tally,” he added.
“The rule is very clear. For example, I competed in the 65kg category, so my weight should be 65 or below. Even 10 grams more than 65 won’t work. Every wrestler who has played at the international or even national level knows that they have to maintain weight,” Dutt explained while recalling his past incident.

Stand by her: PR Sreejesh reacts on Vinesh Phogat’s CAS appeal for silver
Indian hockey legend and bronze medallist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, PR Sreejesh also reacted on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification. Speaking at the India House in Paris, Sreejesh said, “What Vinesh Phogat did is a very big thing. She had to face a lot last year but she showed sportsmanship and reached the finals of the Paris Olympics. It was really shocking for all of us to know that after reaching the finals, she was no going to get a medal. We are all standing with her and we pray to god that there is a positive result and we get a silver medal.”
