The Zimbabwean cricket team hilariously missed a run out at both ends against Bangladesh during the fourth match of the five-match T20I series at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Notably, Bangladesh posted a 143-run total before restricting Zimbabwe to 138 runs, winning a thriller in the last over to extend their unassailable lead to 4-0 in the T20I series.
On the first ball of the 20th over, Blessing Muzarabani bowled a length ball to Tanvir Islam, who dabbed it to the offside before setting off for a quick single. The Zimbabwean fast bowler was quick to get to the ball from his follow-through before he missed his throw at the striker’s end to run out Mustafizur Rahman.
But the play didn’t end there since the ball went for overthrows, causing a miscommunication between Islam and Rahman, who both found themselves at the striker’s end. Richard Ngavara, the fielder at the fine leg region, collected the ball and threw it towards the non-striker’s end where Johnathan Campbell missed the easiest of run outs, with Mustafizur Rahman nowhere in the frame.
The five runs in the last over scored by the last batting pair of Bangladesh proved to be the eventual difference for them in winning the T20I match against Zimbabwe, in front of their home fans.
Notably, after an opening stand of 101 runs between Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar, the Bangladesh batting lineup collapsed in a heap, posting only 143 runs on the board after getting bundled out in the last over with Luke Jongwe picking up three wickets. Zimbabwe kept on losing wickets at regular intervals during the pursuit of a 144-run target, getting bundled out for 138 runs after Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman shared seven wickets among themselves.
