The IPL 2023 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was witness to a bizarre incident involving the glittering zing bails. The Kings won the bat first and got off to a shaky start as they lost two early wickets. But with Liam Livingstone's arrival, the Punjab innings, stabilized before once again hitting a roadblock as the Englishman was caught plumb by  Varun Chakaravarthy.

After this wicket, there was the aforementioned delay in play as one of the zing bails lost power at the strikers' end. The umpire and KKR wicketkeeper  Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who tried tinkering with the bail which refused to work, soon a replacement was brought as the game restarted.

After this incident,  Varun Chakaravarthy continued stunning form and went on pick three wickets while giving away 26 runs in his four overs.  Then other KKR bowlers also had a few decent performances and held Punjab Kings at the score of 179.

Reacting to this bowling spell, Chakaravarthy spoke about how taking his pace off allowed the ball to hold on the surface and create some more mystery for the batters. He said, "What I would like to say is, definitely if you take pace off the ball, it is holding a bit. But after the 12th over, it was not holding and turning that much. The wicket is getting a little flatter. That’s what in our mind and 180 is par. Thank you so much, good match for us, important match for us, happy to contribute for the team."
