Australia star batter Tim David has highlighted his team’s fierce playing style in T20 Internationals (T20I) following their 17-run win against South Africa in the first game, played in Darwin. In the Aussie side’s success, David emerged as the Player of the Match (POTM) for his crucial 83-run knock off 52 balls. His knock was studded with 12 boundaries (four fours and eight maximums). David’s innings came at the time, when the hosts were in immense trouble after losing their top three batters at a score of 30 in 3.1 overs. David received support from Cameron Green, who also played a courageous knock of 35 off just 13. Riding on both innings, Australia posted a total of 178 in 20 overs.
Following his match-winning innings, David spoke to broadcasters and emphasised on his side’s aggressive batting approach. “If you’ve seen us bat in recent times, whether in Australia or abroad, you’d know we go almost all guns blazing. That’s when we believe we’re at our best,” remarked David.
Australia’s stunning record against South Africa in the last six T20Is
Australia haven’t lost their last six T20Is against South Africa. The Aussie side’s last T20I loss against the Protea men came in February 2020 in Gqeberha. Mitchell Marsh and his men will look to dominate South Africa again in the second T20I in Darwin to take an unassailable lead in the competition.
Eyes will be set on Glenn Maxwell, who has been inconsistent with his bat recently. In the opening T20I, Maxwell fell after scoring only one off five from his bat. The 36-year-old struggled to be among the runs in the T20I competition against the West Indies, as well. In the five-match series, he could score only 90 runs in five games at an average of 18.00.
