The seventh and penultimate matchday of the league stage of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) saw Manchester City blow a 2-0 lead, to suffer a 2-4 defeat against Paris-Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes. With that, the hopes of Manchester City reaching the play-off round of the UCL isn’t in their own hands, and their manager Pep Guardiola admitted that they don’t have enough points to go deep in the competition.

Following a goalless first half at the Parc des Princes, Manchester City scored two goals within four minutes at the start of the second half through Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland, to help them take a 2-0 lead. But then, Paris Saint-Germain responded with an instant fightback through Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Bracola in the 56th and 60th minute respectively, to level it up at 2-2.

We have the last chance at home to Brugge and hopefully we can qualify: Pep Guardiola

Paris Saint-Germain kept the pressure on Manchester City’s final third as the second half went along, which paid dividends in the 78th minute with Joao Neves’ strike before an added time goal from Groncalo Ramos put the match firmly out of opposition’s grasp at 4-2. In the post-match interview, Pep Guardiola said about his team’s chances to reach the next round of UCL, as per BBC Sport, “We have the last chance at home to Brugge and hopefully we can qualify.”

Manchester City need to win their final match at the Etihad Stadium next midweek against Club Brugge, to give themselves a chance at the UCL play-off round. “It could happen, if we don't win we don't deserve it. It's always a difficult tie, this is the reality, we haven't got enough points and we have to accept it. We have to do what we have to do,” Pep Guardiola further said.

Moreover, before their next UEFA Champions League match, Manchester City have to contend with Chelsea at home in the Premier League this weekend.
