Chennai Super Kings registered a thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders in first game of Sunday’s double-header. Needing 26 from last 12 balls, Ravindra Jadeja took Prasidh Krishna to the cleaners and smashed 22 runs in the over, leaving just 4 to get in the final over. However, things took a dramatic turn when Jadeja got out and CSK required 1 off the last ball. The Dhoni-led team finally took a sigh of relief when Deepak Chahar completed the single on the final ball.

Kolkata, after opting to bat first, scored a challenging 171 on the board, courtesy of a blistering knock from Rahul Tripathi at top order and amazing finish from Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik. Karthik scored 26 off 11 deliveries and shifted the momentum towards the Kolkata side, who were struggling a bit up until 16th over.

After the loss, KKR’s mentor, David Hussey, was asked if Karthik should be promoted up the order in order to get quick runs, to which he agreed. “Yes we are pondering”, Hussey said.

Hope Russell’s injury is not too serious

Apart from the loss, KKR’s big worry was Andre Russell, who pulled up his hamstring during the match and didn’t finish his full quota of overs. After the match, Hussey confirmed that it was a hamstring injury and hoped that the all-rounder will be fit for the next game, which is scheduled to be played on Tuesday.

“He got a hamstring injury and I hope it is not that serious, we all know how good a player he is and hopefully he will be available in the next game”, Hussey said.
