The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup and former Indian cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin and Dilip Vengsarkar questioned the selectors over the team. Recently, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has taken a dig at the former cricketers over their remarks.

After a disappointing Asia Cup 2022, Team India will look to get back on the winning ways in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Blue haven't won any ICC tournament since the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The BCCI announced the Team India squad for the T20 World Cup on September 12 and moments later, the incumbent Hyderabad Cricket Association President, Mohammad Azharuddin took to Twitter to show his disbelief and shared his choice of playing Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami instead of Deepak Hooda and Harshal Patel. He wrote, "Surprised at the omission of Shreyas Iyer and Md. Shami from the main squad. Shreyas Iyer instead of Deepak Hooda and Md. Shami in the place of Harshal Patel would be my choice."

Later, former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar told the Indian Express in an interview, "I would have picked Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik and Shubman Gill for the T20 World Cup. Would have given them a long run in T20Is because they all had a brilliant IPL season."

Speaking to the same publication, Sunil Gavaskar said, "I believe that this team, with a bit of luck that every team needs, can bring home the trophy. Once the team is selected, then it’s our India team and we all have to back it. We shouldn’t question selections and omissions as it can demoralise some of the players."
