West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against India in Guyana on Sunday. Pooran was also given one demerit point for his first offense in a 24-month period.
Pooran was found in violation of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel Article 2.7, which deals with public rebuke of an incident that occurred during an international match. Pooran expressed his displeasure at the umpires for using up a player review for a decision that he believed was obviously not out after a review of an LBW call in the fourth over of India's innings.
There was no need for a formal hearing because Pooran admitted to the offense and accepted the punishment suggested by match referee Richie Richardson. Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, two on-field umpires, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite, and fourth official Patrick Gustard all made the accusations.
Pooran played a crucial role with the bat in the West Indies win in the second T20I that put them 2-0 up in the five-match series. Chasing 153 to win, the skipper smashed a 40-ball 67, coming into bat in the first over after the West Indies lost two wickets. Despite India's rallying back with the ball later, the West Indies' ninth-wicket pairing of Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hossein took their side to victory with an over to spare.
