The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 hosts, India began their campaign on a winning note on Sunday, October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It was Virat Kohli and KL Rahul who starred for the Men in Blue during their run chase of 200 with the latter finishing the inning with an unbeaten 97 off 115 deliveries. Apart from this, there were several other news which hogged the limelight from the cricketing world.  

But, before we talk about the cricket events that took place on October 8, here’s a match preview of today’s game:

New Zealand vs Netherlands : Netherlands will play their second consecutive match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 9, this time against New Zealand. In their tournament opener, the Dutch were comprehensively beaten by Pakistan with a margin of 81 runs, while the Black C aps got the better of England by 9 wickets.

ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023:

India beat Australia by 6 wickets: India started their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought win after the top three batters in Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed at the score of 0 respectively. While they looked in a spot of bother at this moment, former skipper Virat Kohli along with KL Rahul stitched a much-crucial partnership to reach the total and win the game in hot and humid weather of Chennai.

South Africa Women vs New Zealand Women 2 nd  T20I: After the first match of the five-match T20I series was abandoned without toss, the second T20I also was called off with a No Result on Sunday, October 8. The hosts won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. The side posted 111/9 in their 20 overs, courtesy Maddy Green’s unbeaten 45. But after the New Zealand inning, rain stopped play with the match eventually ending with a No Result.

ODI World Cup 2023: Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee likely to return against Netherlands

New Zealand head coach Gary stead on Sunday shared a major update on the injury concerns from the Kiwis camp ahead of their next match against Netherlands, set to take place in Hyderabad on October 9. He added that Ferguson is available for selection, meanwhile Southee is also looking good to return. However, he confirmed that Kane Williamson will sit out in this match.

India to not wear orange kit for ODI World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan, confirms BCCI

When the Indian cricket team were spotted wearing the orange training kit in the build-up to the ODI World Cup 2023, some reports claimed that they might switch to these colours for the upcoming clash against Pakistan. But, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) has come out to deny the reports of Team India using the alternate kit, to be auctioned for UNESCO fund collection.

ICC deems Dharamsala outfield ‘average’

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium’s outfield once was again under the scanner of the ICC after the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The match which saw Mujeeb Ur Rahman escape some serious injuries after he was seen gliding on the field trying to saw a boundary, the ICC’s independent pitch consultant Andy Atkinson has rated it ‘average’ but has given a nod for England vs Bangladesh match.
