With Sri Lanka and Bangladesh announcing their 15-member squads on Tuesday for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 scheduled to take place in India on October 5, all the 10 squads for the marquee event are confirmed. On the other hand, India's women's cricket team won gold at the Asian Games 2023 and the men's cricket event has been started on Wednesday morning.

Before discussing the major cricket events from Tuesday, let's take a look at today's cricket matches preview:

India vs Australia 3rd ODI

Team India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Australia and will host the Aussies for the third and final ODI in Rajkot on Wednesday. After resting for the first two ODIs, India skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli have returned to the squad. While Jasprit Bumrah has returned for the third ODI against Australia, Axar Patel continued to be rested.

Asian Games 2023: Men's Cricket

  • Nepal vs Mongolia

The first match of the Men's Cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 was played between Nepal and Mongolia on Wednesday morning as the former dominated the matchup. Both the teams are placed in Group A alongside Maldives.

  • Cambodia vs Japan

The Group B teams Cambodia and Japan will square off against each other on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. IST at the  Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou. Apart from Cambodia and Japan, Hong Kong is the third team in Group B.

Note: The Group C features Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Four teams including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will face one of the four qualified teams from the three groups in the quarter-finals.

Here, we will discuss the major cricket events that took place on September 26, 2023:

England vs Ireland 3rd ODI

After the first match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, England won the second ODI against Ireland and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. On Tuesday, England and Ireland faced off each other for the third and final ODI match at the  County Ground, Bristol. Ireland asked England to bat first after winning the toss and the top four English batsmen including  Phil Salt (61 off 28), Will Jacks (39 off 21), Ben Duckett (107* off 78), Will Jacks (39 off 21), and Zack Crawley (51 off 42)  ran riots before rain played the spoilsport.

England scored 280 runs with a loss of four wickets in just 31 overs before the match was abandoned due to rain. The Three Lions won the series 1-0 against Ireland and will now travel to India for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand

The first match between Bangladesh and New Zealand was abandoned due to rain and the Kiwis went on to win the next two matches to clinch the three-match ODI series 2-0. In the third ODI that took place on Tuesday, New Zealand bowled out Bangladesh on 171 runs in just 35 overs as Adam Milne picked up four wickets while Trent Boult and Cole McConchie took two wickets each. The Kiwis chased the target easily Will Young (70) and Henry Nicholls (50) helped their side to win the match by seven wickets and 91 balls remaining.

ODI World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh announce their 15-member squad

The Sri Lanka Cricket have named Dasun Shanka as their skipper and included Maheesh Theekshana, who was struggling with injury during the Asia Cup 2023. However, one of the prominent names missing in the squad was Wanindu Hasaranga, who failed to regain fitness in time for the marquee event.

Bangladesh announced their 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday and Tamim Iqbal, one of the finest batters of Bangladesh in its cricketing history, is set to miss the quadrennial event, seemingly due to a persistent back injury.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam fined for overspeeding

The Pakistan Cricket team were issued visas for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 in India less than 48 hours before their departure to Hyderabad. Ahead of their travel to India, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has found himself in the middle of yet another controversy involving the breach of traffic laws.  Ahead of their departure for India, Babar Azam found himself in hot waters as the 28-year-old had been fined for exceeding the speed limit by the Punjab Motorway Police.

Tim Southee to join New Zealand squad for World Cup

After undergoing surgery on his fractured right thumb, Tim Southee is currently continuing his recovery and has been cleared to join the New Zealand squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. During New Zealand's fourth and final ODI against England at Lord's earlier this month, the 34-year-old Southee dislocated his thumb while attempting a catch.

Pakistan Cricket Team finally received their visas to travel to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 and ahead of their departure to Dubai, Babar Azam was asked about Pakistan's preparation and what to expect from the team. Pakistan skipper said, "The top four is a small goal for us. We want to come out as winners. We did not have enough time to put together a camp before the World Cup because we had been playing for too long continuously. Instead, we gave the players a break so they could come back refreshed and with the hunger to win. You play well when you have that hunger."
