Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 850th goal in the Saudi Pro League match as Al Nassr locked horns with Al Hazm on Saturday, September 2. With his goal, the Portugal star led his side to a 5-1 victory against their rivals, which was recorded as their third straight league victory. Not only this, but with this, Ronaldo also leads the charts and is the top scorer of this season with six goals, one ahead of Liverpool forward Mane. 

US Open 2023: Alcaraz and Sabalenka move to fourth round; Bopana-Ebden to third

Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka secured their spots in the fourth round of the ongoing US Open 2023 on Saturday, September 2. The reigning champion and world number 1, Alcaraz got the better of Brit Daniel Evans 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. On the other hand, in the women's singles round, Aryna defeated France’s Clara Bural 6-1, 6-1. 

Talking about the men’s doubles event, Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna, along with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden advanced to the third round of the event by recording straight set victory over Kazakhstan’s Andrey Golubev and Russian Roman Safiullin 6-3, 6-3. 

Avinash Sable qualifies for his maiden Diamond League final

Indian athlete Avinash Sable qualified for his maiden Diamond League final by finishing fifth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase race at the Xiamen Diamond League 2023. By clocking a timing of 8:16:27, Sable secured his berth in the final leg of this year’s Diamond League, where he will join Neeraj Chopra and Murali Sreeshankar. The finale of the tournament will take place on September 16 and 17 in Eugene, USA. 

East Bengal to lock horns with Mohun Bagan in Durand Cup 2023 final

In the summit clash of ongoing Durand Cup, football fans will enjoy the second Kolkata Derby of the season as East Bengal will square off against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan on Sunday, September 2. The finale will take place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Earlier, the two sides clashed in the group stage match on August 12 of the tournament. 

India defeat Pakistan 6-4 in final to win Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier

While on one end India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 clash saw a no-result with rain playing a spoilsport, the Indian hockey team beat their Pakistani opponent to win the Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier on Saturday, September 2.   The Indian men’s team were crowned champions with a 6-4 win.

Notably, with this win the Indian men’s hockey team qualified for the FIH Men’s Hockey 5s World Cup Oman 2024. 

LA Clippers’ Amir Coffey gets two criminal charges over gun arrest

Amir Coffey, the Los Angeles Clippers’ star, has been hit with two criminal charges of misdemeanor, over his gun arrest last month. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has filed two criminal charges against the 26-year-old, which includes a count of “carrying a loaded firearm,” and another count of “carrying a concealed firearm.”

On the morning of July 30, the cops arrested Amir Coffey, at around 5:05 AM, after they found a loaded gun in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop as per a report from TMZ. He had admitted to the law enforcement about the firearm being his own, which was the reason for his arrest, before he was let go from custody several hours later.
