Indian men stun Hong Kong in group stage, sail through to quarterfinals of Badminton Team Asia Championship

Indian men’s team defeated Hong Kong in the group stage clash to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the Badminton Asia Championship on Wednesday, February 14 in Shah Alam, Malaysia. The Indian team came from behind to secure a 4-1 victory over their counterparts after HS Prannoy lost the first encounter. The World Number 7 went down to Ng Ka Long Angus in two straight sets of 18-21, 14-21 as Hong Kong got their first point for the game. Kidambi Srikanth sealed the deal with victory over Jason Gunawan by beating him 21-14, 21-18. 

Indian women’s team enter Badminton Team Asia Championship QF, beat China 3-2

The Indian women’s team defeated China 3-2 in the group stage clash to make it to the quarterfinal of the Badminton Team Asia Championships. The clash saw two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu making a comeback to action after a four-month injury lay-off on Wednesday, February 14. World number 11-th ranked player led India to a 1-0 lead after defeating world-ranked eighth Han Yue 21-17, 21-15 in just 40 minutes. Soon after the clash, Indian women faced a setback as Tanisha Castro-Ashwini Ponappa slumped to Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning 19-21 16-21.  In the final round, Anmol Kharb secured a sounding win over Wu Luo Yu 22-20 14-21 21-18, to guide the side to a memorable triumph.

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner said that he sacrificed and said no to many things to ensure tennis remains his priority. Sinner told Nederlandse Omroep Stichting that he had a great moment at the tournament, but he didn’t spend too much time thinking about the victory. Sinner said, "You have a great moment and you thank everyone. But on the other hand, you have to train again and start from scratch again. Now here is a new tournament and I hope I can play good tennis." He added, "I said 'no' to many things because returning to training was the top priority. I took a few days off and then I went back to training, that's the most important thing.”

USA tennis star Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend Morgan Riddle shared details of her experience at the Super Bowl 2024 and said that she was harassed during the game night in Las Vegas. Riddle said that she was groped, harassed, and catcalled by men. Riddle shared the details of her horrible experience on her Instagram stories and wrote, “I can’t believe the levels of harassment we dealt with this weekend from men. FA approves Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Manchester United investment

English Football Association (FA) has approved British industrialist Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United. Ratcliffe and his INEOS sports paid $1.25 billion to get an ownership stake in one of England's biggest clubs, allowing them control of the footballing operations of the Red Devils. On February 13, the English Premier League green-lit Ratcliffe’s acquisition.

Quincy Promes sentenced to six years in prison for  drug trafficking

Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes has been sentenced to six years in prison in absentia for drug trafficking. The former  Ajax star did not attend court hearings in Amsterdam and is slated to remain outside the Netherlands in the foreseeable future.  The authorities had set a nine-year sentence for Promes for his involvement in the smuggling of 1,360kg of cocaine through the port of Antwerp, Belgium, to the Netherlands in two shipments in 2020.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team unveiled their W15 car for the 2024 season at an event in Silverstone track alongside Team principal Toto Wolff and drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. T he new car can be considered an amalgamation of Mercedes' previous few cars as it features a silver hue on the front panel, while the remaining livery is predominantly black with teal and red accents.
