Mumbai City complete signing of Greek striker Nikolaos Karelis ahead of 2024-25 season

Mumbai City FC Nikolaos Karelis is on a one-year contract until the end of the 2024-25 season.  Karelis began his journey with Greek side Ergotelis at age 16, making his debut on the final day of the 2007–08 Greek Super League season and becoming the youngest player ever fielded for Ergotelis in a league match. He has showcased his skills extensively and successfully for Greek clubs like Panathinaikos, PAOK, and, most recently, Panetolikos, whom he captained. Outside Greece, he has featured in other top European countries, including stints with Genk (Belgian Jupiler Pro League), ADO Den Haag (Netherlands Eredivisie), Brentford (English Championship), & Amkar Perm (Russian Premier League).

Darwin Nunez and Uruguay teammates fight Colombia fans after 0-1 loss in Copa America semis

Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez and many of his Uruguay teammates rushed into the stands as fans brawled at Bank of America Stadium after suffering a 1-0 loss to Colombia in the Copa America semifinal. The Colombians sealed a spot in the final against Argentina thanks to Crystal Palace star Jefferson Lerma's 39th-minute strike. But after this high-intensity matchup, a scrum broke out behind the Uruguay bench after Mexican referee César Ramos’ final whistle. In a stadium where  90% of fans were in Colombia's favour a small group of Uruguay fans fought with Colombian supporters as beverages were thrown.  Soon, Núñez and his teammates stormed into the crowd and were seen attacking  Colombian fans.

In football, you are either good or not good: Kylian Mbappe

French footballer Kylian Mbappe spoke after his team got knocked out by Spain in the semi-finals of Euro 2024. Mbappe said, “In football, you are either good or not good. I wasn’t good. The Euro for me was a failure. It was a failure. We had the ambition to be European champions; I had the ambition to be a European champion. We aren’t that, so it’s a failure. It’s football. We have to move on. It’s been a long year.”

Charanjot Makes History by Qualifying for the FC Pro World Championship 2024

On July 10, Indian e-football athlete Charanjot Singh, aka "Charanjot," made history by qualifying for the group stage of the World Championship. He defeated "JP Sleator" in play-ins by a scoreline of 5-4. Charnjot earned a total of 7 points in play-ins and finished 3rd in Group D. Now we have all 32 confirmed teams that will compete in the group stage. The 32 teams are divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each. The group stage will be played in a double elimination bracket format, where the upper bracket winners move to the "Knockout Stage," while the lower bracket teams will have to go through the lower bracket.

Steph Curry sets up perfect alley-oop for LeBron James in Team USA exhibition game

Basketball greats LeBron James and Steph Curry combined for an incredible highlight when Team USA faced off against Canada in an exhibition game. USA clinched the game with a score of 86-72 as Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards scored 13 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal while shooting 5/8 from the field and 1/2 from the three-point range. LeBron James and Steph Curry rekindled some showtime magic as the Golden State Warriors superstar threw an alley-oop to his West Conference compatriot which went on viral social media. Fans went ahead and compared it to another crazy alley-oop involving James and Dwayne Wade in their Miami Heat days.

Kawhi Leonard withdraws from USA's Paris Olympics 2024 squad

Los Angeles Clippers power forward Kawhi Leonard withdrew from Team USA, which is set to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024. The forthcoming edition of the quadrennial tournament would have been the first Olympics for the six-time All-Star. Notably, Leonard missed 12 of the LA Clippers’ final 14 games last season due to right knee inflammation. According to The Athletic, Derrick White of the Boston Celtics is a strong candidate to replace the player on the Paris games roster. Earlier this week, Leonard said that his knee was fine and he would take part in training. He was quoted by ESPN as saying, "Everything's been good so far. [The knee has] been at a neutral state, and I hope it stays that way."

President Droupadi Murmu was seen playing badminton with the Olympic medalist and the torch bearer of women’s badminton in India Saina Nehwal. President Murmu faced off Nehwal at the badminton court in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, July 10. The act aimed towards India’s potential to be a badminton powerhouse especially while highlighting the contribution of female players on the global stage. Saina, the 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist, posted a picture with Ms. Murmu and wrote, “What a memorable day of my life 😍🙏..Thank you so much President Mam for playing badminton with me 🙏 #presidentofindia”.

Novak Djokovic advances to Wimbledon semifinal after Alex de Minaur withdraws

Serbian tennis great Novak Djokovic advanced to his record-tying 13th semifinal in Wimbledon 2024 via a walkover. Djokovic made it to the next round after his quarterfinal opponent, Alex de Minaur withdrew from the tournament due to a hip injury. The Australian had announced that he was pulling out of the tournament hours before he was set to square off against Djokovic on the Centre Court. He said, "Obviously not an announcement I wanted to make, by any means. I'm devastated."
