The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 returned with its second edition on Friday, July 18. In the tournament opener, hosts, England Champions were handed a close five-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan Champions at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, the much-anticipated match of the tournament, which was set to be held on July 20 between India and Pakistan, was called off after several Indian players pulled out of the clash.
Notably, just hours prior to the high-octane India versus Pakistan clash, Shikhar Dhawan went out loud, refusing to play the match due to the cross-border tensions following the Pahalgam terror attacks. Reportedly, others players including Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan also pulled out. Later, the WCL organisers confirmed their decision to call off the match.
We will avoid: Kamil Khan on India vs Pakistan in WCL semifinals and final
While former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi recently broke silence on the match fiasco, while referring to Shikhar Dhawan as a rotten egg. However, the Pakistan Champions owner, Kamil Khan, who accompanied Shahid Afridi during latter’s recent address, opened up on the Men in Green’s stance if they have to face Team India in the semi-finals of final of the T20 tournament.
While Khan confirmed that the remaining matches will be held as per the roster, as stated by Geo News, “All the remaining matches are taking place. The tournament is going on as per schedule and there are no changes.” He further continued, “As for the semifinals and final, we’re currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams and we will avoid matches between the two teams,” thus bringing a clarification on Pakistan Champions’ stance if they face-off India Champions later in the tournament.
Speaking of the WCL 2025 standings, the Pakistan Champions are currently sitting at the top of the table with three points. While they won their opening match against England Champions, a match call-off awarded them another point. They will next take on South Africa Champions on Friday, July 25 at the Grace Road in Leicester.
