The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is currently in its homestretch with the playoff matches between four of the best teams of the group stage going down one after another. After the conclusion of the first two playoff matches, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have found themselves in a battle against Mumbai Indians (MI) for a spot in the final, with both the teams set to play the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, June 1.

In the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated PBKS by eight wickets with 10 overs to spare in pursuit of the 102-run target at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, to reach the final. Meanwhile, in the Eliminator, which was completed last night at the same venue, MI posted a big total of 228/5 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Gujarat Titans (GT) to 208/6, to make the Qualifier 2, where they are going to take on PBKS.

What will happen if rain play spoilsport in IPL 2025 Qualifier 2?

Although, if the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 gets washed out or isn’t completed for any other reason, then PBKS will reach the final of the tournament by virtue of finishing in first place in the standings at the conclusion of the group stage at the expense of MI, who finished in fourth place. There is no reserve day for this high stakes playoff match due to time constraints in all likelihood, especially after the IPL this season had to be extended earlier this month due to the India-Pakistan border conflict.

At the same time, it is important to note that the chance of a weather interruption is next to nil in Ahmedabad this Sunday, with the rain not forecasted in the evening hours. Regardless, if the rain does arrive at the Narendra Modi Stadium, then the IPL governing council has already made a provision of adding extra time up to 120 minutes, to complete the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2.
