The 17th edition of the  Indian Premier League (IPL)  has reached its penultimate stage with the table-toppers in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21. But ahead of the match, let us look back at the last league match which could not take place due to rains in Gujarat.

What happens if rains play a spoilsport in playoffs?

As per IPL Rule 13.7.3, it allows for an extra 120 minutes to complete a match if delayed or interrupted, which is double the usual allowance. If the weather doesn’t permit play to resume with the extended time, the highest ranked team, in this case, KKR will progress directly to the final of IPL 2024. 

Moreover, the IPL 2024 playoff stage, including the final also has reserve day option available. “For the playoff matches, in addition to the extra time referred to above, there may be reserve days (on which an incomplete playoff match shall be completed),” the IPL rule states. 

But it is to be noted that there is no rain in the predicted weather forecast for the day today. According to Accuweather, the temperature at night is expected to be around 39-40 degree Celsius, but slight dew is likely to come into play. However, the probability of precipitation in zero percent.
