In the ongoing South Africa vs Australia semi-final game at Eden Gardens, Kolkata , the match was seen getting interrupted after 44/4 in 14 overs due to rain. Now in case if this game fails provide a result today, then the match will move on to a reserve day. The reserve day is scheduled for November 16, Friday, considering 19th November is final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match won't get a result, if either side fails to play a minimum of 20 overs.
Now, if one among South Africa or Australia fails to play 20 overs in total, then the game will be moved to reserve day and even on reserve day, if rain interrupts and the game fails to provide result then the team which is at higher position in 2023 World Cup points table, will be declared as winners.
If we look at the 2023 World Cup points table, both South Africa and Australia have won 7 games in 9 matches, but South Africa have an advantage due to their NRR, hence they stand at second position. Thus, if this game fails to provide a result, then South Africa will qualify for the final of 2023 World Cup since they are at a better position in points table when compared to Australia.
Note: No Result is possible only if either of the side fails to play less than 20 overs even after the completion of reserve day.
