Tommy Paul clinched the biggest win of his career as he shocked second seeded Rafael Nadal on Wednesday at the Rolex Paris Ma s ters. From being down one set to registering back-to-back wins in the next two games, the American denied the Spaniard a potential return to the top of the ATP rankings.
Interestingly, Paul improved his personal record against Rafale Nadal as the 31-ranked American Tennis star rallied from a set down to beat the second-seeded Spaniard 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 in two hours and 33 minutes. The head-to-head record between the two players now stands at 1-1. Paul cherished his victory over the top-seeded Tennis player as he claimed that it the best ever victory in his career.
"It’s probably my best win. I was obviously pumped for the matchup because it’s always interesting when you play one of the Big Three," said Tommy Paul after winning the match. Meanwhile, Rafale Nadal admitted his defeat but appeared optimistic of his next assignment claiming he is looking forward to his 11th appearance at the ATP Finals.
"I am excited about playing in Turin and even if its hasn't been the perfect couple of months from me, of course. But, yeah, nothing to lose. After a good year, going there, just trying my best," said Nadal. The prolific Tennis player further claimed that he is going to enjoy his participation in the Nitto ATP Finals.
"You never know when is going to be the last, especially at my age. So, I’m going to give my best to enjoy this one, and then the next years of course I’m going to fight to be back there," Nadal concluded.
