Sachin Tendulkar, the Bharat Ratna, has been presented with the golden ticket for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as part of the “Golden Ticket for India Icons,” programme by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 50-year-old, who is one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever seen, is the second person after the legend of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, to have received the golden ticket for the global cricket spectacle beginning next month.

In the first match of the ODI World Cup 2023, the defending champions England will be taking on New Zealand, their opponents from the grand finale four years ago, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. The Indian cricket team will be playing their first match of the home tournament against Australia on October 8, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The BCCI took to their official Twitter account on September 8, to reveal the next recipient of the golden ticket, and it was none other than Sachin Tendulkar, who posed with it, alongside Jay Shah, the Secretary of the governing body of cricket in India. Their tweet was captioned, “An iconic moment for cricket and the nation! As part of our "Golden Ticket for India Icons" programme, BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin_rt.” 

“A symbol of cricketing excellence and national pride, Sachin Tendulkar's journey has inspired generations. Now, he'll be part of the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023, witnessing the action LIVE,” it further read.

Indian star actor and celebrity Rajnikanth has also joined the list to have received the 'Golden Ticket' for the ODI World Cup 2023.  “The BCCI Honorary Sectretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Shri @rajnikanth, the true embodiment of charisma and cinematic brilliance. The legendary actor has left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions, transcending language and culture. We are thrilled to announce that Thalaiva will grace the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023 as our distinguished guest and will light up the biggest cricketing spectacle with his presence,” the BCCI quoted along with a picture of Jay Shah presenting the ticket to the star of Indian cinema.

 With the excitement of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 starting to reach a fever pitch, the “Golden Ticket for India Icons” programme is expected to get bigger and more expansive.
