India’s incredible run in the 2022 Commonwealth Games continued as Achinta Sheuli bagged a gold in the men’s 73kg event while creating a Commonwealth Games record. He lifted 170kg on his third clean and jerk attempt after his 143kg in the snatch for a combined total of 313kg.
The junior world championship silver medallist registered three clean lifts of 137kg, 140kg and 143kg in the snatch section. Sheuli’s 143kg attempt broke the Games record and enhanced his personal best.
Achinta Sheuli was born on 24 November 2001 and hails from a very poor family in the Howrah district of West Bengal.
