Who is Ashish Raman Sethi? - First Indian boxer to win Bangla Stadium Boxing Championship

Ashish Raman Sethi is an Indian boxer who made history by becoming the first Indian to win Bangla Stadium Boxing Championship in Patong, Thailand. He achieved this feat by knocking out his opponent in the fastest time of the night, in what he described as the toughest fight of his life.

Raman Sethi, who was born in Haryana, had a passion for cricket since childhood, and represented Haryana in various age groups. Sethi aspired to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but could not make it to the professional level and decided to take a break from cricket at the age of 22.

During his break, he discovered martial arts and started practicing kickboxing at his local gym. He soon realized that he had a talent for combat sports and decided to pursue it as a career and switched to Muay Thai, a form of Thai boxing that involves striking with fists, elbows, knees, and shins.

Sethi's most notable accomplishment to date was on July 18, 2023, when he competed for the Bangla boxing stadium belt in Patong, Thailand. The Bangla boxing stadium is a prominent Muay Thai venue where actual Thai boxing contests take place with real champions competing for awards, titles, and ranks. This stadium has seen many legends compete, but Ashish Raman Sethi is the first Indian fighter to win the title there.

The athlete shared his journey, particularly about an incident that shook him hard. Ashish said, “When I did take part in hardcore muay thai, one of the TOP television Thai boxing leagues in Thailand, I recall that I shattered my jaw in my third match. I had no sensation whatsoever. I had to wait two months to heal with a liquid diet, then eight months, and I was certain I was losing my mind at the time due to a terrible injury.”

Sethi has also participated in several national and international competitions and won many medals and titles including a bronze medal at the IFMA competition in 2020 in Korea, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the elite category. He also won the KFI Kickboxing National Championship in 2018 and the Muay Thai National Championship in 2019.
