Velavan Senthilkumar clinched a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Individual Squash Championships held in Hong Kong on June 10. The 25-year-old, who is just the second Indian man in tournament history to go to the finals, was defeated by top seed Ng Eain Yow 0-3. The Malaysian player defeated the Indian star in the final in 34 minutes, winning in four games overall.


The southpaw is having a stellar year in the squash season winning championship after championship. He won the Poznan Open in March 2023, and the young Indian upset No. 1 seed Rowan Damming in the PSA Challenger Tour in Poland that same month. In April, he won another PSA Challenger Tour, carrying on his winning streak. 


In the championship match, the sixth-seeded Indian upset the fourth-seeded Sam Buckley. Velavan has so far competed in 15 games in 2023 and only lost two out of the many. This defeat was his second of the year. His first came in the Austrian Open opening round against 19-year-old Finnlay Withington.
