Sarfaraz Khan has sensational numbers in the domestic circuit and the batter continues to shine despite missing out on the opportunity to represent India at the highest level. Khan also makes headlines for the same reason and it was another such instance when the batter was reportedly left out of the Rest of India’s squad for Irani Cup 2023 .
This decision came as a big surprise as Sarfaraz was close to a Test call-up and now he isn't even considered for a place in the Irani Cup squad. He played the first Irani Cup of the season against Saurashtra. This year, the Rest of India's squad will take on Madhya Pradesh. Fans were left searching for the reason behind Sarfaraz’s omission from the squad. So, for those fans, here is the answer.
Khan has been left out of the ROI squad because he is not deemed fit to play. Reportedly, Khan has sustained a hairline fracture on his finger and thus has not been included in the squad.
"Sarfaraz suffered the injury on his right finger while doing the 'keeping duties for DYPatil 'B' in a match during the DY Patil T20 Cup. He was injured while collecting a throw from teammate Yash Dhull. He will be out of action for around 10 days. He is currently recuperating at the Delhi Capitals' pre-season camp at Kolkata," a source in the know of the development was quoted saying by TOI.
The report adds that Mayank Agarwal will lead the team. The out-of-favour batsman is aiming to make his comeback in the Test team. Yash Dhull, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Harvik Desai are among the batters in the squad.
Upendra Yadav, who has been part of the India A squad, is the sole wicketkeeper in the team. Spinner Saurabh Kumar, who has been waiting for his Test since 2022, will also ply his trade for ROI. Pulkit Narang and Mayank Markande are other spinners in the team. Navdeep Saini, Mukesh Kumar and Chetan Sakariya are among the pacers in the squad.
