Team India's all-rounder Vijay Shankar is someone who is always on the radar of fans and netizens on social media. The 30-year-old gets brutally trolled whenever he fails to perform for his side because of the infamous 3D tag that was given to him by selectors ahead of 2019 World Cup. With the Indian Premier League suspended and no domestic cricket happening right now, the Tamil Nadu player would have thought that he could get a few days in silence. However, not only Shankar is the talking point of the town, he is in fact trending on social media.

What is the story all about?

The trolls and memes that are doing the rounds on social media are based on the story that Vijay Shankar compared himself with Jacques Kallis and Shane Watson. However, the truth is slightly different from what it has been presented to the people. The statements of Shankar (during an interview) were given a different angle which resulted in the story getting viral on internet.

In a conversation with News 18, the all-rounder was talking about his desire to bat higher up the order in domestic cricket to push his case for playing for India. In the same context, Shankar had stated, "Just because I'm an all-rounder, it shouldn't be like I should bat only at No. 6 or No. 7. I can also be someone like Jacques Kallis or Shane Watson. They open the innings or bat at No. 3 and bowl. If I can score runs at the top, and pick wickets, it's good for the team too, right?"

Here is how Twitter reacted:

As soon as the netizens came across the statement, they started trolling on the all-rounder without knowing the whole context. Twitter was flooded with memes on Vijay Shankar comparing himself with Watson and Kallis.

Did Shankar compare himself with Kallis and Watson?

If the statements are taken into consideration with what Shankar was talking about, it would be clear that the all-rounder never really compared himself with any cricketer. The 30-year-old was only talking about the roles that the two legendary all-rounders played for their respective teams throughout their career which is something that he wants to replicate.

Unfortunately for Shankar, the statements were botched up and presented on social media which was the reason behind him coming in the radar of netizens once again. If people actually see the full interview, they would realize that the story has actually be blown out of proportion.
