After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) created history by winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first-time on June 3, 2025, the fans in Bengaluru were over the moon and celebrated the whole night. The next day RCB decided to host a victory parade in Bengaluru so that the fans can celebrate the success story of their local cricket team after being in love with the franchise since IPL's inception in 2008. However, tragic incident happen that day as 11 people were killed and more than 50 people were severely injured in a stampede which occurred due to overcrowding in the victory parade outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

An investigation was set out by the Karnataka Cabinet to find out the reason behind the stampede, apart from finding out the reason of mismanagement and the people responsible behind the unorganised planning of the victory parade. Today, the Karnataka cabinet has approved the findings by Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission, who were responsible for the investigation, which will lead to severe consequences for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), event management company DNA Entertainment, and the Bengaluru Police officers.

Reason why RCB might have to leave M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru

The investigation which was approved by the Karnataka Cabinet suggested that all the parties involved went ahead with the victory parade despite knowing they couldn't manage the crowd properly. And as per the report published in India Today, it was a “gross negligence and dereliction of duty” by all the stakeholders involved.

It was found out that the organisation of the victory parade was a complete mess as no police officers or ambulance was present outside of the stadium despite knowing the expected turnout for the event.

This report was prepared after various testimonies, site inspection, and hearings from many who were part of the incident. The will now take action against the organisers and stakeholders which might see RCB playing in another stadium from next season instead of M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
