Antonio Rudiger, the Real Madrid defender, has been banned for six matches by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for throwing an object at the referee during their loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville. Apart from him, the likes of Lucas Vazquez and Jude Bellingham were also given straight red cards for angrily reacting at the referee for giving a foul against their teammate Kylian Mbappe late on during their 2-3 defeat against Barcelona.
Following the highly competitive Copa del Rey final, referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea submitted the report about it wherein he stated that the dismissal of Antonio Rudiger was due to him “throwing an object from the technical area, which missed me". As per the BBC report, their columnist stated that Antonio Rudiger had thrown an ice cube at the match official.
Antonio Rudiger was banned for six matches as per article 101 of RFEF disciplinary code
As far as the report from the RFEF was concerned, they stated that Antonio Rudiger was suspended for six matches due to “more violence against the referees”. At the same time, they also revoked the red card given to Jude Bellingham for showing dissent at the referee for his decisions after the final whistle, while stating that Real Madrid managed to provide video evidence to disprove the claim of the referee in his report about the aggressive attitude from the English footballer.
It is understood that the German will have to serve his six-match ban in the La Liga as per the directive of the RFEF despite the fact that his offence happened in a Copa del Rey match. Moreover, with only five matches remaining in the La Liga this season, the suspension of Antonio Rudiger will carry into the opening match of Real Madrid in the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The six-match ban on Antonio Rudiger was levelled as per the article 101 of the RFEF disciplinary code wherein the “mild violence” towards the referees is addressed.
