Despite scoring 835 runs across the two innings and five centuries coming during the course of five-day Test match, Team India went down against England in the series opener of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy by five wickets. However, their poor fielding effort and lack of support for Jasprit Bumrah proved key in India’s defeat, they will hope to get back as a unit in the upcoming second Test, which is scheduled to be played from July 2 to 6 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

As the day gets closer, the biggest topic of discussion at the moment is whether Jasprit Bumrah will feature in the second Test or will sit out to manage his workload? However, the answer remains with the Indian team management, but latest reports have added a new twist.

Jasprit Bumrah bowls full tilt in optional training ahead of second Test

After Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill reiterated chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s stance of Bumrah’s participation in only three Tests during the ongoing series, the Indian spearhead returned to the nets on Saturday, June 28 during an optional training session. The 31-year-old bowled for at least half an hour, going full tilt after not bowling on Friday, in what was Team India’s first net practice after their defeat in Headingley Test.

Earlier, speaking at the post-match press conference after India’s five-wicket defeat in the first Test, Gautam Gambhir was inquired about Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the remaining four Tests of the series. To this Gambhir responded, “[We] haven’t decided which two matches Bumrah will play, but he will play a total of three. We need to manage his workload. The scoreline doesn’t change that… he will play three Tests only.”
