Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women has vowed to take action against people abusing Sh ubman Gill’s sister, following the six-wicket loss for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Titans in the final league stage match of the Indian Premier League 2023 season.
After Shubman Gill scored a century which led GT to a win against RCB, his sister had taken to Instagram to post pictures from the match with the caption, “What a wholesome day.” In the comments section, Shahneel Gill received the vilest threats from various accounts on the platform, some of which are too horrible to be read.
In response, Swati Maliwal took to Twitter to share screenshots of some threats made to Shahneel Gill and wrote, “Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing Shubman Gill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing Virat Kohli’s daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well. This shall not be tolerated!”
For the unversed, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya had won the toss and chose to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 21, Sunday. The openers for RCB, the captain Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli put up a 67-run stand to give the team a very good start.
After three wickets fell in quick succession, Kohli stitched together a 47-run partnership with Michael Bracewell. He then paired up with Anuj Rawat to create a 67-run stand in the last few overs of the innings to help propel the team’s total to 197/5. The RCB opener ended up scoring his second hundred in back-to-back IPL matches.
In the bowling innings, Royal Challengers picked up the early wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, but then Shubman Gill paired up with Vijay Shankar to build a massive partnership of 123 runs. Shortly afterwards, GT did lose three quick wickets themselves, but Gill stayed unbeaten till the end to notch up his second hundred in the IPL to help his team win the match. With this defeat, RCB were eliminated from IPL playoffs contention.
