Premier League teams like Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Everton are set to participate in the Next Gen Cup 2023. These EPL clubs will lock horns with Indian teams like ATK Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC, Sudeva Delhi FC, & the RFYC in the tournament. The NextGen Cup is a youth football tournament organized by the Premier League in cooperation with its partner leagues, the Indian Super League and the Premier Soccer League, as part of the Premier League Youth Games Initiative.
The cup was founded in 2020 and featured youth teams of several established teams like Manchester United, Southampton, and Chelsea along with other youth teams from clubs in the ISL. The 2023 edition of the NextGen Cup will be played from May 17 to May 26. All the matches in the tournament are likely to be played in Mumbai. The competition will feature youth teams of prominent clubs in England like Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United. Indian clubs like ATK Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC, Sudeva Delhi FC and the Reliance Foundation Young Champs will also feature in the tournament.
Stellenbosch FC from South Africa will also be participating which also is the defending champion after winning the 2022 edition of the NextGen Cup. In 2022, the U-23 category saw English clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City participate. The matches will be live-streamed on the ISL Facebook page and on JioTV.
Premier League Interim Chief Executive Richard Masters said in 2019 “The Premier League works extremely closely with the Indian Super League and other organisations to support the growth of football in India.” The brightest young talents in the football world will be participating in the tournament in India. Young footballers from England and South Africa will be showcasing their skills at the NextGen Cup in Mumbai.
