The second day of the World Athletics Championships 2023  continued to be a disappointing affair for Indian athletes. On Day 2, Santhosh Kumar Tamilarnsan and Sarvesh Anil Kushare failed to make it through the qualifiers. While Santosh crashed out of the 400m hurdles heat race, Kushare couldn’t make it past the qualifying round.

Tamilarasan clocked a time of 50.46 seconds to finish seventh in heat number three, and hence, failed to qualify for the semifinal round. In the 400m event, the racers who finished in the top five in all four heats, along with four other fastest racers made it to the semifinals of the tournament.

On the other hand, Kushare failed to clear the 2.25 m mark in all three attempts. Not only this, but with his performance, he finished 11th in the standings in Group B and 20th overall, and hence, he was knocked out of the event. In the high jump, those who finished 2.30 or the top 12 from the qualification round and Group B made it to the final cut.

India had a disastrous beginning to the latest edition of the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. Earlier, India’s top distance runner Avinash Sable failed to qualify for the finals of the men’s 3000 m steeplechase event. The Indian athlete failed to make it to the summit clash after finishing seventh in heat number one on August 17, Saturday.
