Ishan Kishan treated Indian cricket team fans with a blistering double century on Saturday as the wicketkeeper batter scored 210 runs off just 131 balls. With this knock, Kishan got himself included in an elite club of double centurions. He became the fourth Indian batter and ninth overall to score a double century in ODIs.

With the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma already in the club, it was a major achievement for Kishan and the youngster got validation from one of the existing numbers. Rohit Sharma who holds the record for the most number of double centuries (3) in One-Day International, shared a post welcoming Kishan into the elite club.

Sharma welcomed the 24-year-old into this star-studded club in his typical style. Rohit shared Kishan’s picture from the third ODI against Bangladesh and wrote an interesting caption. “Yeh club ka mazza alag hai, @ishankishan23,” wrote Rohit in the caption of his social media post.

Meanwhile, Kishan was prompt to reply to his captain. The batter expressed his happiness at this warm welcome from Rohit as he replied “Maza hi maza hai”.

Kishan scores fastest double ton

While the double centurion club had many members already, Kishan created a unique place for himself in that club. The 24-year-old holds the record for the fastest double century. Kishan took only 126 balls, eight less than the second-fastest in the format, to score his double-century. Kishan pipped New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr who had reached the mark off 134 balls against Ireland in 2018.

West Indies opener Chris Gayle held the previous men's record, taking 138 deliveries against Zimbabwe in 2015.  Kishan, who  struck 24 fours and 10 sixes in his stunning 131-ball knock, sharing a second-wicket partnership of 290 with Virat Kohli, also became the youngest (at 24 years of age) to score a double ton.
