England all-rounder Sam Curran was expected to fetch big bucks with the kind of performances he has been giving in T20s this year. But Curran might not have imagined that he would create history by becoming the most expensive player in an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Curran, the Player of the Tournament at T20 World Cup 2022, fetched a record INR 18.50 CR as Punjab Kings secured the services of the English all-rounder.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also seemed interested in securing the services of the England all-rounder but only Punjab Kings had the purse to spend over 15 Crores on one player.
With Curran scripting history, Twitter cricket fans went crazy as they expressed their feelings through memes.
