Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has revealed what he said to Yuzvendra Chahal to get the veteran spinner’s best against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18. Fielding first after winning the toss, Punjab restricted Bengaluru to just 95/9 in their 20 overs. Chahal again stepped up for PBKS and delivered an excellent spell to his team. The spin wizard bagged 2/11 figures in his three overs, claiming the key scalps of Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar.
Following PBKS' five-wicket win, their captain Iyer said he made Chahal realise that he is one of the best bowlers in the league and it’s essential for him to pick up more and more wickets. "I personally had a chat with him and told him that you are a match-winner and you need to get us as many wickets as possible...He has a capability of bouncing back, and he is one of the best bowlers in the IPL," said Iyer.
RCB record their third defeat in Bengaluru in IPL 2025
RCB have now accumulated their third defeat at home in the tournament, following their five-wicket loss against Punjab. They are still awaiting their maiden victory on home soil. Earlier, Challengers lost their matches against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) as well in Bengaluru.
Rajat Patidar and his men will face Punjab again on April 20. This time, PBKS will be the hosts in Mullanpur. The win against Bengaluru has promoted Punjab on the points table as Iyer and Co. are now sitting in the third spot on the points tally, with five wins and just two losses. RCB haven’t lost their away matches in the tournament, so far and they will look to taste success in the upcoming game to be played in Punjab’s backyard.
