
On October 13, 2019, India defeated South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in the second Test of the three-match Test series at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium (MCA) Stadium in Pune. With this, India registered their 11th consecutive series win at home showcasing their dominance in front of their home crowd. India registered a complete dominant performance against the Protea side with skipper Virat Kohli leading from the front with his career-best knock of 254* runs
Coming to bat first after winning the toss, India declared their first innings on a mammoth 601 runs for the loss of five wickets. At first, Mayank Agarwal came up with his century as he scored 108(195) runs, hitting 16 fours and two sixes. After that, Virat Kohli led from the front with a knock of 254* runs off 336 balls, hitting 33 fours and two sixes. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane also contributed with the scores of 58 and 59 respectively, while Ravindra Jadeja got out after scoring 91(104), thus missing his hundred by just nine runs.

After posting a massive total on the board, the Indian bowlers did the job well as they bowled South Africa out for 275 runs - taking a lead of 326 runs in the first innings. Skipper Faf du Plessis scored 64 runs off 117 balls while Keshav Maharaj contributed with 72(132) runs. For India, Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets, Umesh Yadav scalped three, Mohammed Shami took two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja put one in his bag.
After taking a lead of 326 runs, India asked South Africa to follow-on. Batting in the second innings, South Africa were bundled out for 189 runs as India won the match by an innings and 137 runs. With this win, India took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in a three-match series. After that, the hosts went on to win the third Test by an inning and 202 runs to white-wash by Proteas by 3-0.
