Defending Champion Iga Swiatek looked in sublime form in her second-round match against Karolina Pliskova. It was complete dominance from the World Number 3 player as she won the match in straight sets. She continues her impressive Wimbledon 2026 campaign and today was just another clinical performance from the Polish star. Iga Swiatek looked emotional after a tough three set win in the previous round against Taylor Townsend, but the Polish superstar looked in dominant touch in her match against Pliskova.

Iga Swiatek controlled the tempo of the match right from the opening game. She looked in fine form with her heavy groundstrokes, superb movement, and relentless returning to win the first set 6-1. Former Wimbledon Finalist Karolina Pliskova had no answers to Iga Swaitek as she could not find any opening in the first set. Pliskova struggled to hold her serve and could not win any game on her serve. The only game she won in the first set was when she broke Iga Swiatek in the fifth game. Iga Swiatek continued to dominate and won the second set 6-3 to complete a commanding win. 

Iga Swiatek ashamed to request Wimbledon for more towels

Iga Swiatek had earned the nickname 'towel thief' due to her conspicuous efforts to acquire as many of them as possible last year as souvenirs, which she later gifted to family, friends and charities. Ahead of the tournament, Iga Swiatek told the press that she would be doing the same this time around and continued the trend. After winning her first-round match, Iga Swiatek was seen packing loads of the new red strawberry towels into her bag before leaving the court. She did the same on Thursday after claiming a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 win over Karolina Pliskova, but admitted she was embarrassed to ask for more.

After winning the match, Swiatek was asked by BBC's Rishi Persad if she has all the towels she needs during her on-court interview. For which Iga Swiatek replied with "Well, there are two more there, I guess, in the green boxes, but I was ashamed to ask, so I'm going to stick with the four that I've got already," This answer left the crowd in laughter. 

Iga Swiatek is looking in great form and will be keen to go all the way to defend her title. She will face Alexandra Eala in the third round and that match is set to be played on 4th July. Interestingly the H2H between these two players are one each and both of them come into this fixture with plenty of confidence. It will be interesting to see how the next round pans out for the Polish superstar.
