Star Indian athlete and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra finished second at the Diamond League 2025 Final, held on Thursday, August 28. The Indian javelin thrower, who lifted his maiden Diamond League title in 2022, failed to get his second win of his career, finishing second behind Julian Weber, who put up a performance of ages.
Appearing in his fourth Diamond League final, the 27-year-old began with 84.35m throw. He followed with a 82m throw in his second attempt and fouled in his third, fourth and fifth attempt. Going for this sixth throw, he was third, but after a 85.01m attempt, he went past Trinidad’s Keshorn Walcott’s 84.95m and secured a second place.

While India’s ‘Golden Boy’ secured the second-place with his last throw, Julian Weber finished at the top, clinching the title after crossing the 90m mark twice. While his 90m throws came in his first two attempts, registering 91.37m and 91.51m - these also remain to be his personal best. Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra etched his name in history books with third straight runners-up finish at the event.
Having started his second-place streak during his gold medal victory at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra stands strong having continued it for 1483 days now. He has gone past Sergey Makarov, but sits behind Jan Zelezny, who has 33 most consecutive top-two finishes in javelin throw. However, the reigning world champion remains the first athlete with 26 top-two finishes in a row.
