Star tennis player and one-time Grand Slam champion, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev was knocked out of the ongoing US Open 2025. In what was his first round match at the US Open 2025, the 13th seeded Medvedev was handed 3-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-0, 4-6 defeat in a battle which lasted for three hours and 45 minutes at the Louis Armstrong court in New York on Monday morning.
While the defeat was a tough one for the Russian, who previously lifted the title in the 2021 edition of the tennis major, his Round of 128 match against France’s Benjamin Bonzi was marred with several hiccups. After his defeat, the Russian looked visibly frustrated and event went on to break his racquet and he smashed it multiple times on the floor and even on the bench.

Chaos occurs during Medvedev’s first round clash at US Open; crowd erupts in boos
During the same match, a hilarious turn of events took place. After the Frenchman - Benjamin Bonzi took the first two sets on the five-set thriller, in the third set, a cameraman stepped on to the court at the Louis Armstrong Court in New York. The incident triggered a new controversy.
As Bonzi looked prepared for a second serve, cameras spotted a photographer trying to leave the court from behind. At this point, the chair umpire took a call, allowing Bonzi to make his first serve again. The incident triggered Medvedev as he was seen rushing towards the umpire. While the Russian was seen getting into a heated altercation, he was supported by the crowd who also booed the match official for straight six minutes.

In the video going viral, the 29-year-old can be heard saying, “Are you a man? Are you a man? Why are you shaking? What’s wrong huh? Guys he wants to leave. He gets paid by the match not by the hour.”
