Rohit Sharma faced a lot of scrutiny for declaring the innings when Ravindra Jadeja was close to getting his first double-century in international cricket. Even Rahul Dravid became the soft target of trolls as they remembered the instance of Dravid declaring the innings when Sachin was batting on 194*. However, as it has been revealed, it was the complete opposite of what people saw on Day 2 of the Mohali Test.

The declaration fiasco was also raised before Jadeja in the post-day press conference, and it was then when everything was cleared. The all-rounder made the revelation that it was his decision to not proceed with the innings while the captain wanted him to get to his maiden double-century. When Jadeja was asked about what transpired in the middle he said, “Rohit Sharma had sent the message through Kuldeep to go for 200 after that India will take declaration, but I opposed his suggestion of going for 200 saying if we make tired Sri Lankan batsman play before tea then we might get early wickets”.

I am very much happy with my performance: Jadeja

The Saurashtra cricketer then went on to talk about his impressive innings and accepted that he was also quite happy with his performance. Jadeja pointed out that he only looks to improve his game every time he takes the field for India.

"I look to improve my game every single time I play for India. When I get an opportunity to score runs, I look to implement that opportunity in performance and so yeah, all in all, I am very much happy," he said.

On the back of Jadeja's 175*, India posted a mammoth first-innings total of 574/8d. Apart from Jadeja, there were some more impressive batting performances. Rishabh Pant was the second-highest scorer in the first innings for India with his 96. After that it was R Ashwin with his fabulous 61. The new inductee at No. 3, Hanuma Vihari also impressed everyone with his gutsy knock of 58. The man of the moment, Virat Kohli, playing in his 100th Test also chipped in with a handy 45. In reply to India's 574, Sri Lanka ended Day 2 with 108/4.
