John Cena, who is the record-setting 17-time WWE Champion, currently finds himself in the midst of his 2025 farewell tour as an in-ring performer in the pro-wrestling promotion, with his retirement match set to happen this December. After beating Logan Paul at Clash in Paris Premium Live Event (PLE) in France last month, John Cena is advertised for WWE SmackDown at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, which is scheduled to happen this Friday, September 5.
There is a massive development doing the rounds online in regard to the upcoming event, and it is about John Cena possibly making his final appearance on WWE SmackDown as an in-ring performer, as reported by WrestleVotes. Currently, there are just eight dates remaining on his 2025 farewell tour with six of them already confirmed, including the upcoming SmackDown in Chicago, leaving only two dates to be advertised, and in all likelihood, it could go to WWE Raw later this year.
WrestleVotes took to their official X account to reveal the latest about John Cena’s 2025 farewell tour, which read, “We’re told some within WWE are quietly expecting tomorrow night to be John Cena’s final SmackDown. According to a source, with only seven remaining dates left—and just two yet to be announced—it’s unlikely another will be a SmackDown event, meaning Cena will have debuted and ended his run on the blue brand in the very same building, Chicago’s Allstate Arena.”

SmackDown holds a massive significance in the career of John Cena since he made his WWE debut on the show more than 23 years ago, coincidentally at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. On that occasion, he ushered in what would later be called the “Ruthless Aggression" era after getting into the face of Kurt Angle and giving him a run for his money in the first match on the WWE main roster.
It will be interesting to see what John Cena will do on WWE SmackDown in front of a rowdy crowd at the Allstate Arena in Chicago this Friday with Wrestlepalooza PLE set to happen later this month.
