The Day 2 of IPL 2022 mega auction was off to a slow start but there were some interesting buys made from the first set of the afternoon. Among those, it was the one involving Ajinkya Rahane which caught everyone by surprise. With so many teams looking to build a core of Indian players, a slight bidding war was expected for the former Indian Test captain, who has also been a skipper in IPL.
However, things did not go as expected and the opening bid from Kolkata Knight Riders eventually turned out to be the closing bid for the day, leaving everyone by surprise. KKR secured the signing of Rahane at base price of Rs 1 crore and as expected, Twitter was flooded with posts around the same.

While some claimed it as bargain of the season, others opined that it was probably one of the best buys for KKR at the mega auction. Meanwhile, there was also a suggestion that he could be the replacement of Shubman Gill in the side, opening alongside Venkatesh Iyer.
