During the Australian bowling innings in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025 clash against co-hosts India, all-rounder Annabel Sutherland emerged as a star with the ball for her team. The 24-year-old picked her maiden five-wicket haul in Women’s One Day International (WODI), to halt India’s charge beyond 350-run total, helping bundle them out for 330 runs in 48.5 overs after a tough start for Australia with the ball.
Earlier in the afternoon, after Australian captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and decided to bowl first, Indian openers shared a 155-run stand for the first wicket with Smriti Mandhana scoring 80 off 66, while Pratika Rawal went past her maiden fifty in the Cricket World Cup. Annabel Sutherland got onto the board with the ball by dismissing Pratika Rawal for a well made 75 off 96 with a short ball which the batter could only hit straight to Ellyse Perry stationed at deep square leg.
When India were getting closer to 300-run mark with an impressive partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh for the fifth wicket, Annabel Sutherland got rid of the latter with a slower short ball, who hit it straight down the throat of substitute Georgia Wareham at long-on after scoring 32 off 22. Sutherland’s next victim was Rodrigues, who was bamboozled with a slower ball on length, hitting it in the air to Beth Mooney towards mid-on after a quick-fire 33 off 21 without a six.
Annabel Sutherland took two more wickets in the 49th over of the Indian innings, dismissing the tail enders Kranti Gaud and Shree Charani to bring up the milestone moment.
