With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 done and dusted and the Indian women’s team finally returning victorious and claiming their maiden ICC title, the Bangladesh women’s team is amidst turmoil following some serious allegation by former pacer Jahanara Alam. The former Bangladesh cricketer revealed some serious incidents from the past while making some serious allegations on the members of the support staff as well as the current captain Nigar Sultana Joty.

Days after her remarks, the Bangladesh skipper has finally broken silence on the matter. It is to be noted that Alam, who currently resides in Australia alleged that several junior cricketers approached her saying Nigar Sultana has “hit” and mistreated” them. However, recently, the women’s skipper denied these allegations while claiming them baseless.

Why would I hit anyone?.. Am I Harmanpreet Kaur?: Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana launches brutal attack on Indian skipper

In an interview with Daily Cricket, Sultana not only defended herself, but went on to take a brutal swipe at Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur while recalling an incident from India’s 2023 tour of Bangladesh where Harmanpreet smashed the stumps after an LBW decision. “Why would I hit anyone? I mean, why would I strike the stumps with my bat? Am I Harmanpreet, that I would go around hitting the stumps like that? Why would I do it?” she began.

“In my personal space, if I’m cooking or something, I might bang my bat around, I might hit my helmet — that’s my own business. But why would I do something like that to someone else? Why would I get physical? Just because someone says so? You can ask the other players or anyone else whether I’ve ever done anything like that,” Joty further told Daily Cricket.

The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter further clarified, “What I’m trying to say is: someone who hasn’t been here for six or seven years and has gone off to Australia — if I really beat someone or harmed someone in any way, is there no team management, no manager, no coaching staff? Am I the ultimate authority then? What I mean is, if this player had a problem, why would she call Jahanara apu all the way in Australia? She could’ve shared it with anyone here.” While the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is currently looking into the matter, they have also set up a panel to look into it.
