Just days prior to the upcoming three-match ODI series against India at home, the Australian cricket team has been dealt with a massive blow. After Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis were ruled out of the series opener in Perth due to respective reasons, the hosts will now miss the services of all-rounder Cameron Green. It is to be noted that it comes just two days prior to the start of the tour, which will commence from Sunday, October 19 with the first ODI set to be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Green, who was set to feature in the series, has sustained a low-grade side soreness, which will keep him out of the ODI leg. This also comes as a massive blow as Australia prepares for the upcoming Ashes series, set to commence from November 21 Down Under. Green last featured in the opening Shield round for Western Australia last week, but bowled only four overs, picking a wicket.
Marnus Labuschagne added to Australia’s ODI squad for India series
With the 26-year-old now struggling to get fit in time, Cricket Australia have added Marnus Labuschagne as his replacement. Labuschagne will fly from Adelaide at the completion of the Sheffield Shield match on Saturday night, and will will join the side in Perth ahead of the first ODI.
A Cricket Australia spokesperson said, as quoted in its statement, "Green will complete a short period of rehabilitation and is tracking to return to play in round three of the Sheffield Shield to continue his preparation for the Ashes."
