Star India pacer Mohammed Shami recently appeared on a popular TV show named Aap ki Adalat where he opened up on several things about his personal and professional life. On the show, host Rajat Sharma also asked one question to Shami regarding Virat Kohli. Notably, Shami has been given the nickname ‘Lala’ by Kohli. Apart from that, Kohli also calls Shami ‘Lazy’ jokingly for taking naps during massages.
However, Mohammed Shami laughed out when Rajat Sharma asked about Virat Kohli calling him lazy and also mentioned about the workload of a fast bowler. “Your body gets exhausted during a Test match. I might have taken a short nap, but if that earns me the ‘lazy’ tag, I don’t mind. Fast bowling is the toughest job in the team. We run the most, we respond whenever the situation demands, and off the field, if I relax for a bit, what’s the harm? Virat can call me ‘lazy’ or ‘lala’, but I am neither fat nor selling jewellery. In the Indian team, you are bound to pick up some nickname,” Shami said on the show.

In his interview, Mohammed Shami also mentioned about his mother’s interaction with Virat Kohli. After India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, a heartfelt video went viral on the internet where Kohli can be seen touching Shami’s mother’s feet and interacting with her during the celebrations after the win in the final against New Zealand in Dubai.
“Virat used to talk to my mom over the phone. She had never met him in person, and when she came to watch the match after years, I told Virat she was there. That’s why he went to her,” Shami said.
