India Women star player Jemimah Rodrigues has claimed that legend Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were asked to leave a cafe in New Zealand. The young India batter said that the incident took place when India Men and Women were residing at the same hotel. Rodrigues also revealed that she and her teammate Smriti Mandhana wanted some batting tips from Virat and they were invited to a restaurant, where Anushka also accompanied her spouse.

In the recent conversation with Mashable India, Jemimah Rodrigues also divulged that Kohli made the two cricketers realise their potential to bring change in India Women’s cricket. The chat between the iconic names was long which forced restaurant owners to leave the venue. “So that time Anushka was also there. So the first half of an hour we spoke about cricket And he actually told Smriti and me that, you both have the power to change women’s cricket. And I can see that happening. You know, to just take up that responsibility and what change you can do is going to be big and massive," remarked Jemimah.

“So, that’s what he told us and a lot of batting and stuff like that we spoke. Then after that, we just spoke about life. Like if you know some long-lost friends meet and speak, we spoke for 4 hours – four hours just random stuff. And the only reason we stopped was that the cafe guys kicked us out. ‘That’s enough. It’s 11:30. Leave now’,” added Rodrigues.

Virat Kohli’s upcoming assignment in India jersey

Virat Kohli played his last series for Team India in the Champions Trophy 2025 held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In his team’s third trophy win, Kohli contributed 218 runs with one hundred and a fifty in five matches. His next assignment is expected to be in Australia, where three ODIs will be played by the Men in Blue between October 19 and 25.

In May, Kohli retired from Tests and now, he is active in ODIs only in the international circuit. Discussing his last outing in competitive cricket, it came for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. In Bengaluru’s maiden title win, he emerged as the most successful batter with 657 runs in 15 matches, at a strike rate of 144.71.
