The Indian cricket team returned to action on Tuesday, September 10 after a month long hiatus following their 2-2 series draw against England in the United Kingdom (UK). The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team registered a convincing nine-wicket win in their Asia Cup 2025 opener in the UAE to mark their presence as the defending champions.

While they will be boosted by the win, they will hope to continue their domination when they take on Pakistan in the upcoming match, set to be played on Sunday, September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. However, the Men in Blue have dominated their arch-rivals, but with a new looking side in the ranks at both ends, it is expected to be an exciting match.

India are a good and strong team: Wasim Akram ahead of IND vs PAK

Days prior to the match, former Pakistan cricketer and one of the greats of the game, Wasim Akram was also questioned about the team’s upcoming fixture. To this he responded, “I think it will be a competitive match.” When further asked about who could come out good, he said, while speaking on Telecom Asia Sport, “Yes, India are a good and strong team and if you compare these two teams player-wise, India look strong, but I think Pakistan will have the confidence of winning the tri-series and will give a good competition.”

The former Pakistan captain also asserted the transition of the team under Salman Ali Agha and Mike Hesson, stating, “Pakistan is a young side with a good captain and a good head coach, so they need time to settle into a stronger unit. We, as a nation, need quick results which will not come.”

It is to be noted that India have been the dominant one amongst the two toughest rivals having won 18 of the 21 T20I matches since lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados. As far as their head-to-head record is concerned, both teams have played 13 games with India having an upper hand with nine wins whereas Pakistan have won three matches and one game has ended in a draw.
